Full Day Special Education for Children ages 2.9 – 5 years
Our special education program is funded through the NYS Department of Education and is free for qualifying students. We offer a warm, nurturing environment for children who are demonstrating developmental issues such as speech and motor skill delays, Down Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Special Education department services children with varying disabilities. We offer full day and integrated classroom settings. In addition, SEIT services, Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Counseling are provided as needed.
The Director, related service providers and teachers meet weekly to discuss student progress and to create consistency between all therapeutic modalities to ensure student success. In addition, our special education teachers and PreK teachers also meet in order to discuss and create Units of Study that align to the ELOF and PKFCC standards. Each class adapts these Units of Study in different ways or with a different focus. Teachers differentiate their lessons in order to meet the individual needs of each student in their class. Children learn through various “centers” that are set up in the classroom such as art, dramatic play, library, manipulatives, blocks, sensory table, etc.
Every day (weather permitting), the children play outdoors for 30 minutes enabling them to develop their motor skills through various physical activities.
